  1. wrong you should have counted URDU WITH HINDI, BOTH ARE RELATED. ANOTHER WRONG INFO ABOUT BENGALI , JAPANESE ,. ON THE CONTRARY INDONESIAN IS NOT LISTED IT HAS MORE SPEAKERS THAN PORTUGESE, BENGALI, JAPANESE

    • no, because Hindhi is purely derived from sanskrit; but urdu is mixture of majorly Sanskrit,Hindhi and minorly persian, arabic, turkish but it's script is derived from arabic i think.

    • I don’t know how that data was collected but it does not add up! Are you trying to tell me that, the population of all the countries in Africa and outside Africa that uses Swahili does not make a big number of the speakers of the language? Or you just didn’t consider any languages originating in Africa?

    • Due diligence of yours is weak. Highly populated area is Calcutta, of India speaks Bengali. As per their lists accurate. Urdu and Hindi is not similar.

    • Another stupid and completely wrong ranking, in Brazil alone there are more than 210 million, adding Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, there are more than 280 million Portuguese speakers

Arabic native speakers were 200 million long time ago, nos they are near 600 millions.

    • Arabic should be at least ranking third or fourth. In fact probably every committed muslim will somewhat read/understand Arabic.

  3. hindi is an inferior language compared to urdu.just to sound different they use afew sanskrit words.it is infact tarnished image of urdu.

  4. The article refers to native speakers. The most spoken language as lingua franca is English, which was used in the article and I'm using right now, although it's not my native language.
