In the year 2023, we will see a total of four eclipses, including two Lunar eclipses and two Solar eclipses. You can watch these eclipses from different parts of the world. However, to watch these eclipses, one must take some precautions to prevent eye damage. The first Solar eclipse you will see in 2023 will be on 20th April 2023, Thursday, and the second will be on 14th October 2023, Saturday. On the other hand, the first Lunar eclipse of 2023 will be seen on 5th May 2023, Friday, and the second Lunar eclipse will be visible on Sunday, 28th October 2023.

According to NASA, without eye safety or protection, it is not safe to look at these Solar and Lunar eclipses directly through the naked eye. It can cause life-long damage to the eyes that can lead to blindness. But there are some ways by which you can watch the eclipses without damaging your eyes. For Solar Eclipses (Surya Grahan), you can use proper filters like black polymer, aluminized Mylar, or welding glass of shade number 14.

Also, you can watch the Solar Eclipses (Surya Grahan) easily by projecting the image of the Sun on a whiteboard by a Telescope. Likewise, you can watch the Lunar Eclipses (Chandra Grahan) by using either a Telescope or Binoculars without damaging your eyes.  In astronomy, the simple definition of an Eclipse is- Partial or Complete obscuring of a celestial body by another. Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) 2023:- As per the astrological calendar, the first Lunar eclipse, 5th May 2023, will start at 08:45 PM and will end at 01:00 AM. The Sutak period in India will start around 9 hours before the eclipse. While the second Lunar eclipse, 28th October 2023, will start at 01:06 PM and end at 02:22 PM. The Sutak period will be applicable in this eclipse also.

Solar Eclipse (Surya Grahan) 2023:- According to the Indian astrological calendar, the first Solar Eclipse, 20th April 2023, will start at 07:04 AM and end at 12:29 PM. The Sutak period will be applicable in this Solar eclipse because it cannot be seen from India. The second Solar eclipse will happen on 14th October 2023 and will affect the zodiac signs like Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, and Aries. Similar to the first Solar eclipse, the Sutak period will be applicable in this Solar eclipse because it will be visible from India.

Lunar Eclipses (Chandra Grahan) 2023:- The Penumbral Lunar eclipse, 5th May 2023, will begin at 15:14:11 (UTC Time) and will end at 19:31:45 (UTC Time). The timing for the maximum Penumbral Lunar eclipse is 17:22:59 (UTC Time). On the other hand, the Partial Lunar eclipse will begin at 19:35:25 (UTC Time) and end at 20:52:40 (UTC Time). The maximum Partial Lunar eclipse timing is at 20:14:05 (UTC Time).

Solar Eclipses (Surya Grahan) 2023:- The first complete or total Solar eclipse, 20th April 2023, will begin at 02:37:08 (UTC Time) and will end at 05:56:43 (UTC Time). The timing for the maximum Total Solar eclipse is 04:16:53 (UTC Time). The Annular Solar eclipse, 14th October 2023, will begin at 15:03:50 (UTC Time) and end at 20:55:16 (UTC Time). The timing for the maximum Annular Solar eclipse is 17:59:32 (UTC Time).

Visibility of Eclipses in 2023

Solar Eclipses (Surya Grahan) 2023:-

As per some reports, there will be a complete or total Solar eclipse on 20th April 2023, which can be seen from Australia, East & South Asia, the Pacific Ocean, Antarctica, and the Indian Ocean. On 14th October 2023, there will be an Annular Solar eclipse that will pass Central, South, and North America and can be visible in Mexico, some parts of the United States and many Central and South American countries. People from Western Hemisphere can also see these Solar Eclipses.

Lunar Eclipses (Chandra Grahan) 2023:-

According to NASA, on 5th May 2023, there will be a Penumbral Lunar eclipse which can be seen in Asian, Australian, and African countries. On the other hand, on 28th October 2023, there will be a Partial Lunar eclipse which will be visible in Asia, Africa, Australia, North America, and some parts of South America.
